Parks and Recreation in Plentiful Supply

Just down the street from the New West at Tierra Subida real estate community in Palmdae, Pelona Vista Park offers 10 lighted soccer fields and a multi-use concrete trail. The park is also the site of the Children’s Springfest and Egg Hunt. The new Palmdale Oasis Park has a year-round swimming pool, a recreation center and the Old West mining town-themed DryTown Water Park. Marie Kerr Park is the site of the popular new Palmdale Amphitheater, the Best of the West Softball Complex, one of the city’s two skate parks and many other recreational facilities. Poncitlán Square features a bandstand pavilion/gazebo for outdoor concerts, weddings and other special events. Additional parks, Palmdale Lake, and several public and private golf courses also are located in Palmdale.

Shopping, Culture and Entertainment

The Antelope Valley Mall offers more than 140 stores, including Harris Gottschalks, Dillard’s, Mervyn’s, JC Penney and Sears, as well as numerous apparel stores and specialty shops. You can grab a bite at the food court or one of the mall restaurants, then catch the latest blockbuster movie at the Cinemark 10 Theaters. Noted for its many fine art activities, a symphony orchestra and a master chorale, Antelope Valley Community College presents professional art shows and dance, theatrical and musical performances. In the summer, big-name entertainment comes to the Palmdale Amphitheater during the Clear Channel Concert Series and the Starlight Concert Series. Another summer favorite is Thursday Night on the Square, a weekly open-air farmers market in Poncitlán Square, complete with food, live entertainment, arts and crafts, and free children’s activities. Throughout the year, The Palmdale Playhouse presents a wide range of music, dance, theater, opera and holiday performances. Another great destination is the Palmdale Plant 42 Heritage Airpark, where visitors can view a collection of aircraft flown, tested, designed, produced or modified at United States Air Force Plant 42.

Education

Children living at the Tierra Subida real estate community in Palmdale will attend elementary and middle schools in the Palmdale School District and Palmdale High School in the Antelope Valley Union High School District. The Antelope Valley Community College District, with campuses in both Lancaster and Palmdale, offers associate degree and certificate programs in more than 40 subject areas. Additional opportunities for higher education are available through Antelope Valley satellite campuses of Chapman University, the University of La Verne, the University of Phoenix and California State University, Bakersfield. Students also can earn college credits in aerospace technology from public and private colleges and universities around the country through an innovative program offered by the AERO Institute in Palmdale.
